Polybenzoxazine/carbon nanotube nanocomposites as a polymeric sensing material for volatile organic compounds

Abstract The emissions of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) have hazardous effects on humans and the environment, hence they should be detected reduced. In this study, polybenzoxazine (PBZ) amine-functionalized multiwall carbon nanotube (MWCNT) composites were synthesized as a sensor for VOCs. MWCNT functionalized with two types diamines, namely, 1,6-hexanediamine (HDA) phenylenediamine (PDA). HDA or PDA treated MWCNTs loaded into benzoxazine matrix different weight percentages (0.1, 0.3, 0.5, 1%). FTIR analysis confirmed chemical attachment diamines MWCNT. XRD diffraction scanning electron microscopy (SEM) used to investigate nanofillers morphology clarify differences between pristine Thermal gravimetric (TGA) was study composites’ thermal stability degradation behavior. It found that, in contrast neat PBZ, major temperature PBZ/0.5%MWCNT-PDA nanocomposites enhanced by 10%. electrical conductivity PBZ 6.32 × 10 –9 , which 6.11 –7 1% MWCNT-PDA. This material tested VOCs methanol, acetone, toluene showed that PBZ/1% MWCNT-PDA composite responded all vapors.
